For the English speaking buddies I've met over the years, let me post a short summary of my stay in New York I did last year.
One day in summer 2009, my wife and me decided to visit New York. Ok, the flight was awful, I have to admit. There were many kids on the plane and we couldn’t sleep at least 10 minutes without one of those small brats crying, screaming or doing something else noisy and nasty.
Fortunately, after about 9 hours or so, we arrived at the airport, got our luggage quickly and took a cab to the Hotel New York, just across the street from Madison Square Garden. After we had unpacked, we went on our sightseeing tour. The first stop was, guess what: Times Square. Wow, you have to see it.
Also, don’t miss the Hollywood Boulevard of New York. There are a lot of attractions, like many great restaurants we chose one for our dinner from and MTV studios.
Furthermore, we saw Ground Zero, and what’s more important, it was September 11th. The streets were crowded with tourists, fire fighters, and police. There were parades held all around the site. People were sad and angry at the same time and it also was really quiet, apart from the big bells people rang all the time to remember. In the neighborhood candles were lit and pictures of family members, colleagues or friends were deposited. But honestly, despite all the sadness, there was something really big going on: we kind of celebrated all the heroes and victims of the terroristic assault and that made my wife, me– and I think all of the other people in place – pretty confident.
Next, we got to see Empire State Building, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. We had lunch and dinner at many great restaurants the next few days and at night, we walked the streets enjoying the nightlife. If you ever want to visit a big, great and lovely city, New York is definitely one place you don’t want to miss.
Love New York!
